The project, the activities and the goals of the Observatory


The Regional Tourism  Observatory operates from Region Lazio and City of Rome Tourist Board Head Office. The Observatory represents an instrument capable of monitoring national and international demand and contributes to orientate institutions and companies in terms of business planning and promotion strategies.


From the main activities of the Regional Tourism Observatory it is useful highlighting:

 

• Data gathering from receptive infrastructures to detect tourism flow.
• Studies and research regarding the phenomenon of tourism and its dynamics.
• Creation of a database -segmented in sector- for activities.


 The Observatory carries out a support role by involving Provinces, Town Halls, Business Associations, Sector Company Associations and companies in general. It exploits all information source available through conventions and agreements made with ISTAT, Banca d’Italia, (UIC), ENIT, National Tourism Agency, EBTL, universities and research institutes.
The Observatory will lead the operations for the construction of a unique Data Entry System, allowing analysis and interpretation of the information related to tourism offer and demand. Such data will be integrated with specific investigation and supplied by different Bodies. 


The objective is:

 

• Analysing tourism demand  (realistic/potential)
• Providing technical knowledge of the market trends
• Spotting strategies to intepret and adapt to the tourism offers
• Supporting the Tourism Policies promoted by Bodies and local firms.
• Building sharing data and information heritage from which all parts involved could access, spot weaknesses  and contribute to mitigate their impacts.


The Analysis of tourism demand is carried out through the study of:


• Arrival/Departures and presence of national and international visitors within hospitality infrastructures and amenities
• Provenance
• Seasonality of flows
• Typology
• Destination
• Motivation
 
The Analysis of Tourism Offer is carried out through the investigation of:


• Receptive hospitality and amenities
• Other infrastructures and tourism services
 
The analysis of the result of diffusion is based upon:


• Frequent reports related to the behaviour (consumptive) of tourism flow in relation to departure, arrival, provenance, receptivity typology, permanence, and socio-economic data (age, education, income and profession)
• Annual reports, short term/medium term forecasts
• Detailed studies on specific needs estimations related to specific sectors of interest.
